Buffalo, NY – A fast-moving winter storm is poised to bring significant snowfall and hazardous winds to the Buffalo area starting Thursday evening. Residents should prepare for blowing snow, gusts up to 50 mph, and visibility concerns during commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will begin late Wednesday but intensify Thursday evening, with the heaviest snowfall expected overnight into Friday morning. Total snow accumulations between 3 to 7 inches are forecast for Niagara, Orleans, and Erie counties. Blowing snow will create whiteout conditions on roadways such as I-190 and Route 33.

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday through 4 a.m. Friday. Officials warn that icy roads and reduced visibility will make travel treacherous, urging residents to avoid unnecessary trips. Power outages are possible as high winds may damage trees and utility lines.

Thursday’s high is predicted to reach 32°F with a west wind gusting up to 48 mph. Friday will bring light snow showers in the morning before partly sunny skies emerge by afternoon, with a high near 29°F. Weekend conditions are expected to remain chilly, with additional snow showers Saturday and highs in the low 30s.

Residents are encouraged to stock up on essentials, charge devices, and drive cautiously if travel is unavoidable. Stay updated on local weather developments via the National Weather Service or local emergency alerts.
