Buffalo, NY – Snow can be expected east of Lake Ontario on Sunday, with light accumulations forecast across the Tug Hill Plateau and parts of the western Adirondacks. The National Weather Service in Buffalo says 1 to 3 inches of snow may fall in these higher-elevation areas through Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation may begin as snow across the Southern Tier early in the day before transitioning to rain later Sunday. Elsewhere across western and north-central New York, primarily rain is expected.
High temperatures will reach the upper 30s on the Tug Hill and the low-to-mid 40s elsewhere, keeping accumulations limited outside of the higher terrain. Forecast precipitation probability maps show widespread chances for rain and snow across the region, with the greatest likelihood of snow occurring east of Lake Ontario in Lewis, Oswego, and Jefferson counties.
Travelers heading toward the Tug Hill or western Adirondacks should be prepared for slick roads, reduced visibility, and changing conditions as precipitation shifts from snow to rain in surrounding areas. Lower elevations are expected to see mostly wet roads with limited winter impacts.
Snowfall will taper off later Sunday night as temperatures slowly rise and precipitation becomes more scattered.
