Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service in Buffalo reports that Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across much of Western and Central New York through Thursday evening, as strong lake effect snow bands continue to cause hazardous travel.
According to forecaster Brothers, additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected in the most persistent bands, with wind gusts up to 40 mph leading to blowing and drifting snow. The advisories cover counties including Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Southern Erie, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis.
Motorists should expect snow-covered roads and sudden whiteout conditions, especially during the afternoon and evening commute. Travel may be difficult at times, with visibility dropping quickly as snow squalls move through.
Residents are urged to slow down and use caution, particularly on open stretches and rural roads. The NWS advises travelers to monitor local forecasts and submit snow reports via official channels or social media.
The snow bands are expected to weaken late this evening as winds shift and colder air settles over the region.
