Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service in Buffalo has continued a Wind Advisory from 11 a.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday, with westerly winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected across western and central New York.

According to the NWS, gusty winds will increase late Friday morning and continue through the evening and overnight hours. The strongest gusts are expected along the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shorelines, as well as over higher terrain.

The advisory covers a wide area including Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Batavia, Jamestown, Canandaigua, and Oswego, where residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations and lightweight objects ahead of the high winds.

Forecasters warn that tree limbs may be knocked down, potentially leading to isolated power outages. Motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution on exposed roadways and bridges.

Winds are expected to ease early Saturday morning as the system moves east and high pressure builds in.
