BUFFALO, N.Y. – Rain will spread across western and north-central New York on Saturday, bringing a wet start to the weekend and cooler temperatures. Widespread showers are expected from the Southern Tier north into central parts of the state, making for challenging travel on secondary roads and highways.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, lake effect rain showers will develop east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario on Sunday, with the heaviest activity in the morning. Coverage is expected to diminish by the afternoon, but off-and-on showers could still impact outdoor plans.
Cities including Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse will see daytime highs in the 60s, while higher terrain from the Southern Tier to the Tug Hill Plateau will dip into the 50s. Drivers should be alert for reduced visibility on I-90 and I-86 during heavier downpours.
The cooler, damp weather pattern is expected to hold through the weekend, with improvements possible early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if lake effect showers persist into Monday.
