Buffalo, NY – Lake effect snow continues to move south and southeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario today, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of hazardous travel conditions through this evening.

According to the NWS Buffalo office, snow bands are expected to strengthen between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, shifting north into the Buffalo and Watertown metro areas by evening. Accumulations of 2–4 inches are likely in areas south of Buffalo, including Dunkirk, Springville, and Jamestown, with lighter totals northward.

Snowfall is projected to continue overnight, mainly affecting areas northeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario. By early Wednesday morning, warmer air will move into the region, helping to transition snow to rain and gradually improve road conditions.

The weather service advises drivers to use caution, as localized moderate snowfall could create slippery roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and prepare for a quick change from snow to rain late tonight.
