BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sunshine returns across western New York after a damp Columbus Day, setting up a bright and comfortable Tuesday for drivers and students heading back to school. Fall’s mild stretch continues early in the week before cooler air slides in by midweek, signaling the region’s first taste of late-October chill.

According to the National Weather Service office in Buffalo, only a slight chance of showers lingers through early Monday afternoon before skies clear. High pressure strengthens Monday night into Tuesday, bringing mostly sunny skies and highs near 68°F. Calm winds and dry pavement should make for easy travel along I-90 and through the Buffalo metro during the morning commute.

By Wednesday, temperatures will dip into the mid-50s as Canadian air filters south. The NWS says lows could reach the upper 30s inland, prompting early concerns for patchy frost in rural Erie and Genesee counties. Residents are encouraged to cover tender plants and prep outdoor spigots as the Fall chill deepens late week.

Despite the drop, dry conditions prevail through Thursday, offering ideal weather for leaf-peeping, pumpkin patch trips, and outdoor cleanup ahead of the next system. Rain chances may return by Friday night as another weak front approaches from the west.
