Buffalo, N.Y. – Residents across western New York will wake up to wet roads Wednesday as showers and possible thunderstorms linger overnight, keeping travel slick into the morning commute. The National Weather Service reports a 70% chance of rain, with brief thunderstorms possible through daybreak.

According to the Weather Service, scattered showers are expected through Wednesday afternoon, with highs near 74 degrees and southeast winds picking up to 10 mph. A few rumbles of thunder could pass through after 5 p.m., though rainfall amounts will remain light outside of heavier downpours.

Conditions will begin to improve late Wednesday night, with decreasing cloud cover into Thursday morning. Highs will reach the mid-70s Thursday under partly sunny skies before a stretch of dry, warm weather settles in.

By Friday, sunshine returns to Buffalo with highs around 80, extending into Saturday with similar warm, clear conditions. Another round of showers is possible Sunday morning, but the weekend overall looks favorable for outdoor events, lake travel, and late-summer activities.

Residents should watch for slick roads Wednesday morning and keep an eye on any thunderstorm development later in the day. Drier, brighter weather will dominate western New York through Saturday before rain chances increase again by Sunday.
