Buffalo, NY – Western New York residents can expect a shift from mild fall weather to chilly, frost-prone conditions as the week progresses, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Forecasters say Tuesday (Oct. 14) will remain dry and mild, with highs in the mid-60s and clouds giving way to afternoon sunshine. By Wednesday, temperatures will dip into the low 50s, with overnight lows in the 30s bringing the first widespread frost risk for inland areas.

Thursday will feature abundant sunshine but remain cool, with highs near 52–57°F and lows again near the freezing mark. Another round of frost is expected Thursday night, particularly away from Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, where slightly warmer temperatures will persist.

By Friday, highs will recover slightly to the mid-50s to low 60s, with sunshine in the morning followed by increasing clouds late in the day.

The NWS urges residents to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing during overnight cold spells, especially in rural or sheltered areas prone to early frost.
