Buffalo, N.Y. – Parts of western and northern New York are bracing for a frosty start to Tuesday as temperatures dip into the 30s overnight, prompting frost advisories across the region. Gardeners and growers in the Southern Tier and North Country should take precautions as patchy frost may damage sensitive plants.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, frost advisories are in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday for Cattaraugus, Allegany, and Lewis counties. Lowville and Highmarket in the North Country could see readings as low as 36 degrees, while Wellsville and Olean may drop into the upper 30s. Most of western New York, including Buffalo and Rochester, will remain in the mid to upper 40s.
Travelers across higher terrain should be alert for reduced visibility in early morning fog where frost forms. The NWS recommends covering outdoor plants, bringing potted vegetation inside, and allowing extra time on the road during the early commute.
Cooler-than-normal nights are expected to continue, with chilly mornings lingering into midweek. Additional frost advisories may be issued if clear skies and calm winds return later this week.
