BUFFALO, N.Y. – Frost coats rooftops and car windshields across western New York this morning as sub-freezing air grips the region one last time before a wetter pattern takes over. The National Weather Service Freeze Warning expires at 9 a.m., ending the growing season for much of Niagara, Erie, and Genesee counties, but another round of impactful weather isn’t far behind.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, temperatures will rebound into the mid-50s under sunny skies today before clouds return tonight. Rain arrives Thursday morning and becomes widespread by afternoon, continuing into Friday as a strong low-pressure system sweeps across the Great Lakes. Some areas could pick up an inch of rain, with gusts reaching 30 mph near Lake Erie and along the I-90 corridor.

Residents should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility by Thursday evening, particularly during the evening commute. The rain may linger into Halloween day before tapering Friday night, bringing drier but breezy conditions for trick-or-treaters. Temperatures will hold near 50°F during the evening — cool and damp, but manageable with waterproof layers and reflective gear for kids.

Saturday brings scattered showers and lingering wind gusts, then gradual clearing by Sunday with highs in the low 50s. It’s the start of a colder November stretch that could soon bring western New York its first measurable snow.

And remember — clocks “fall back” early Sunday morning as Daylight Saving Time ends. A chilly November lies ahead.
