Buffalo, New York – Strong winds and wintry conditions continue to impact the Buffalo area early Tuesday as a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo reports sustained west winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour, affecting Buffalo and much of western New York. While a previously issued High Wind Warning has been canceled, advisory-level winds remain strong enough to cause disruptions through the early morning hours.

As of early Tuesday, conditions at Buffalo Niagara International Airport included temperatures near 21 degrees, along with light snow, fog, and mist. Wind chills were reported in the single digits, and visibility was reduced at times due to blowing snow.

Forecasters warn that gusty winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, snap tree limbs, and result in isolated power outages. In combination with snow showers, winds may also lead to patchy blowing snow, creating hazardous driving conditions on untreated roads.

Travel may be especially difficult during the early-morning commute, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and buses. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, increase following distance, and remain alert for sudden drops in visibility.

The advisory covers Erie County and surrounding areas, including Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming counties. Winds are expected to gradually weaken after sunrise as the pressure gradient relaxes.

Looking ahead, snow showers may continue intermittently through midweek, though no additional wind-related hazards are expected beyond this morning. Temperatures are forecast to remain cold, with highs generally in the 20s through New Year’s Day.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and take precautions until winds subside.
