BUFFALO, N.Y. – A wind advisory remains in effect for much of western and north-central New York through early Saturday morning as gusts near 50 mph are expected to sweep across the region overnight. The strongest winds are expected along the Lake Ontario shoreline and higher elevations east of Rochester.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, west to northwest winds between 20 and 30 mph with stronger gusts could knock down tree limbs and unsecured objects, including Halloween decorations left outside after tonight’s trick-or-treating. Power outages are possible, particularly across Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, and Genesee counties.

Travel could be difficult for high-profile vehicles on open roadways such as I-390 and the New York State Thruway between Buffalo and Syracuse. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution, especially during early morning commutes. Residents should secure outdoor furniture and holiday displays before winds intensify.

The advisory is set to expire at 5 a.m. Saturday, but forecasters say breezy conditions may linger into the weekend before calmer weather returns later Saturday afternoon.

Warnings remain in effect until early Saturday.
