Buffalo, NY – Lake-effect snow will continue to weaken across western and north-central New York Tuesday morning, with the greatest remaining impacts expected east of Lake Ontario before conditions gradually improve later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service office in Buffalo, lake-effect snow east of Lake Erie has diminished, producing only light snow with minimal additional accumulation early Tuesday. Travel impacts in the Buffalo metro area are expected to remain limited as snow bands continue to weaken.

The most persistent snowfall is focused east of Lake Ontario, particularly across southern Jefferson County and the northwest portion of the Tug Hill Plateau. Forecasters say snow rates in this area reached up to 1 inch per hour early Tuesday morning, though bands are expected to weaken and shift north as the morning progresses.

Snowfall is forecast to taper off between 4 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, with additional accumulations remaining minor outside the Tug Hill region. Visibility may briefly be reduced within heavier bands early in the morning, but widespread hazardous travel is not expected.

Several winter weather headlines have already been scaled back. The Winter Weather Advisory east of Lake Erie has been canceled, and the Lake Effect Snow Warning for Oswego County has also been canceled, reflecting the decreasing intensity of snowfall.

Road conditions may remain slick in localized areas, especially in higher elevations and untreated secondary roads, but overall impacts are expected to be short-lived.

Temperatures will remain cold Tuesday, helping snow linger on grassy and elevated surfaces before conditions turn quieter later in the day.

The National Weather Service advises drivers in Jefferson County and the Tug Hill region to use caution during the morning hours and continue monitoring local forecasts for any updates.
