Buffalo, N.Y. – Western and north-central New York are facing another stretch of dry weather, with no rainfall expected through the first part of next week. The lack of moisture is adding pressure to already expanding drought conditions across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, high-pressure systems will keep rain out of the forecast through at least Monday. The U.S. Drought Monitor shows moderate drought already covering much of western New York, including Erie, Genesee, and Monroe counties, with abnormally dry conditions extending north toward Jefferson County.

The dry stretch could impact late-season crops and reduce water levels in smaller streams and ponds. Residents in rural areas relying on wells may notice declining levels, while city residents could see increased outdoor water restrictions if the pattern continues. Farmers across the Finger Lakes and western counties are also preparing for reduced soil moisture heading into the harvest season.

Fire danger is another growing concern. With low humidity and gusty winds possible later this week, officials are urging residents to avoid open burning. The dry spell is expected to last until at least early next week, with no significant rain systems on the horizon.

Warnings remain in effect for continued dry conditions, and the National Weather Service will issue updates if the pattern persists deeper into October.
