Buffalo, N.Y. – Dangerous wind gusts could sweep across Western New York Friday afternoon, toppling branches and causing isolated power outages during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Wind Advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. for Niagara and Northern Erie counties, including Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph.
High-profile vehicles traveling along Interstate 190, the Skyway, and the Peace Bridge may face difficult driving conditions, especially during peak afternoon travel. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items such as patio furniture, garbage bins, and decorations that could become airborne.
Local utilities caution that downed limbs may cause scattered outages, and drivers should use extra caution near traffic signals in case of power disruptions. While widespread damage is not anticipated, gusts could bring hazards to both motorists and pedestrians in open areas and along the Lake Erie shoreline.
The advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday, with winds expected to ease into the evening hours.
