Buffalo, N.Y. – Snow will return to western and central New York late Monday night as a low-pressure system tracks into the region, setting the stage for a slow and slick Tuesday commute. The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of western and north-central New York, in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
According to forecasters, widespread accumulating snow will develop overnight, with totals of 4 to 6 inches likely. The heaviest snow is expected south and east of Buffalo, Rochester, and Watertown, where lake enhancement could boost accumulations during the day. Light to moderate snow will reduce visibility and create slippery road conditions, especially during the Tuesday morning rush.
Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution on untreated surfaces, as road crews work to keep major routes like I-90 and I-390 clear through the day. Air travelers should also prepare for potential delays out of Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
Lake effect snow may linger south of Lake Ontario into Tuesday night before tapering off. Another system could bring additional light snow later in the week as cold air remains in place across western New York.
Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday evening.
