Buffalo, NY – Light snow will move across western New York this afternoon, followed by a more organized band of lake effect snow developing late in the day, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of general snowfall this afternoon, with heavier accumulations of 2 to 4 inches possible from Buffalo to Batavia and through the Saint Lawrence Valley. Snowfall rates may briefly reach up to 1 inch per hour within stronger lake effect bands.
Winds from the south-southwest will gust up to 30 mph, potentially causing limited blowing snow and reduced visibility during heavier bursts. Roads could become slick, especially on untreated surfaces and elevated bridges during the evening commute.
Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and use caution, particularly along I-90, I-190, and Route 63, where snowfall rates may fluctuate quickly. Conditions should gradually improve after midnight as snow tapers off.
