Buffalo, New York – Widespread light snow is expected to move into Buffalo tonight and continue through Tuesday into Tuesday night, with the most impactful conditions occurring Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of snow across the Buffalo metro and other lower-elevation areas before snow tapers off or changes to rain Tuesday afternoon. Snow will be most persistent overnight through Tuesday morning, leading to slick and slushy road conditions during the daytime commute.

Greater impacts are expected east of Lake Ontario and across higher terrain. The Tug Hill Plateau and western Adirondacks could receive 3 to 6 inches of snow, while nearby lower elevations in those regions may see 1 to 2 inches. Snow may continue in those areas into Tuesday night.

There is also a low but notable risk of ice accumulation, particularly across portions of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes, where a brief period of freezing rain or freezing drizzle could occur Tuesday morning or Tuesday evening. Ice accumulation probabilities range from 30 to 40 percent, though temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by early to mid-afternoon, limiting ice impacts.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday for Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego counties, where snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are most likely.

Overall, Tuesday will be the most affected day, especially for travelers on untreated roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces as snow and occasional wintry mix move through the region.
