Buffalo, NY – Power lines hum and leaves whip across wet sidewalks as gusty winds sweep through western New York this Halloween morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for much of the region, including Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, and surrounding counties, in effect through 5 a.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, winds from the west to northwest could reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts near 50 mph at times. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should take caution, and residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items — including Halloween decorations that could blow away in the blustery air.
By Saturday, steadier winds ease slightly, but colder air slides in behind the system. Highs will reach the upper 40s to near 50°F, with brisk conditions making it feel several degrees colder. Light rain or drizzle may linger in parts of western and northern New York before tapering off.
Sunday brings a notable shift: temperatures early in the day could dip close to the freezing mark, signaling the region’s first true taste of November chill. Some models even hint at a few early flakes across higher elevations near Chautauqua and the southern tier late Sunday into early next week.
Daylight Saving Time also ends Sunday at 2 a.m., giving residents an extra hour of rest — and, perhaps fittingly, a preview of winter’s first breath as November begins.
