Buffalo, NY – Much-needed rainfall will soak western and north-central New York today before a sharp cooldown arrives midweek, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

The storm system is expected to bring between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain across most of the region through tonight, providing relief for dry conditions. Areas including Buffalo, Rochester, Dunkirk, and Jamestown could see the highest totals near 1.5 inches, while lighter amounts are expected inland toward Geneva and Wellsville.

According to forecasters, temperatures will fall steadily following the rainfall. Highs near 70°F Tuesday will tumble into the 40s and 50s by Thursday, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s. The National Weather Service warns that frost and possible freeze conditions may develop Wednesday night and Thursday night, especially in interior valleys and rural areas.

The cooler pattern will persist through the end of the week, with dry weather likely returning Friday. Residents are advised to protect outdoor plants and sensitive vegetation from potential frost damage.
