Buffalo, NY – Bitterly cold temperatures continue to grip the region as a cold weather advisory remains in effect until late Wednesday morning. Wind chills as low as -20°F are expected across western New York, posing a serious frostbite risk for exposed skin within 30 minutes. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity and dress warmly if venturing out.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, temperatures dropped to -3°F at Buffalo Niagara International Airport early Wednesday. The area is experiencing its coldest stretch since February 2019. Though the cold advisory expires by 11 a.m., below-average temperatures will persist into Thursday, with highs reaching only the mid-20s.

Snow chances will return Thursday evening, with minor accumulations of up to one inch possible. Friday promises slightly warmer conditions with highs in the low 30s and partial sunshine, but snow showers are likely to resume Friday night into Saturday. Weekend highs are forecast in the upper 20s, accompanied by periodic snow showers.

Drivers should remain cautious, particularly along major routes like I-90 and I-290, where icy conditions could persist through the week. Residents are reminded to check on neighbors, particularly the elderly, and to avoid prolonged exposure outdoors.
