Buffalo, NY – Lake effect snow continues to impact portions of Western and Central New York this morning, with slick road conditions developing south of Buffalo and Watertown, according to the US National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Bands of snow off Lake Erie are mainly affecting higher elevations of the Boston Hills and the western Southern Tier, with snowfall rates around one inch per hour early Thursday before tapering off this afternoon. Meanwhile, snow off Lake Ontario is pushing slowly south from the Tug Hill Plateau, impacting Wayne, Cayuga, and southern Oswego counties through midday.

Forecast models show 2 to 4 inches of accumulation in the most persistent lake bands, with lighter amounts elsewhere. Outside the lake effect zones, scattered flurries are possible with only minor accumulation expected.

Drivers should use caution this morning, as untreated roads could be slippery during the commute. Visibility may briefly drop during heavier bursts of snow but should improve as the snow bands weaken later today.

Temperatures will remain below freezing, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.
