Buffalo, New York – Flooding concerns continue across western and central New York early Wednesday as rivers and creeks remain elevated following heavy rainfall that dropped over 3 inches in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday evening for a large portion of the state, including Buffalo, Rochester, Watertown, and surrounding communities. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches were widespread, with localized higher amounts where storms repeatedly tracked over the same areas.

Water levels remain high along rivers and streams, especially those draining the Tug Hill Plateau and western Adirondacks, where ongoing snowmelt is adding to runoff. Low-lying areas and flood-prone roadways may still see standing water, particularly near creeks and smaller waterways.

Communities including Oswego, Watertown, and Lowville face continued concerns as runoff works through the system, while areas like Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Rochester may see gradual improvement in smaller streams.

Residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert, avoid water-covered roads, and monitor updates for potential warnings.

The flood threat is expected to ease later Wednesday, but elevated water levels may persist into the evening hours.
