Buffalo, New York — Snow showers moving through western New York this afternoon are causing poor visibility and deteriorating road conditions, prompting caution for drivers, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

The Weather Service said that while overall snow accumulations are expected to remain minor in most locations, moderate to occasionally heavy snow showers are reducing visibility and making roads slippery as they pass through the region. Radar data from mid-afternoon shows snow moving east across western New York ahead of and along a cold front.

Forecasters warned that visibility could drop to around one-quarter mile at times, particularly during heavier snow bursts. Untreated roads and highways may quickly become snow-covered, increasing the risk of slick travel conditions.

Traffic camera images along Interstate 90, including areas between Williamsville and Depew, showed reduced visibility and snow-covered pavement during the afternoon hours. The Weather Service said conditions may continue to fluctuate as additional snow showers move through over the next few hours.

Officials emphasized that even brief periods of heavier snow can significantly impact travel, especially during the afternoon commute. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

The National Weather Service advised residents to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions and to check the latest forecasts and road reports before traveling.

For commuters across the Buffalo metro area and surrounding communities, officials say the primary concern will be short-term visibility drops and slick roads rather than heavy accumulation.
