Buffalo, NY – Buffalo residents should brace for rising heat this weekend as temperatures soar into the 90s by Monday, with scattered thunderstorms possible this afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a prolonged stretch of oppressive heat is expected across Western New York, with highs nearing 95°F by Tuesday in several cities including Buffalo, Rochester, and Olean. The heat will intensify starting Saturday and peak early next week. Forecasters warn of a few thunderstorms today, particularly in the late afternoon and evening hours, which could bring localized downpours and lightning.

Cities across the region — from Canandaigua and Dunkirk to Jamestown and Watertown — are forecast to experience at least four consecutive days of temperatures above 90°F. That includes a projected high of 93°F in Buffalo on Tuesday and up to 95°F in Olean by Wednesday.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Those without air conditioning should consider using cooling centers or shaded public spaces.

The heat wave is expected to continue through midweek, with additional advisories possible as conditions evolve. Stay weather-aware and prepare for more updates from the NWS.
