Buffalo, New York – With heat index values nearing 90°F across much of Western New York, residents from the Niagara Frontier to the Genesee Valley will sweat through another hot, humid Tuesday before a refreshing cooldown arrives later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, isolated afternoon showers or storms are possible across the interior Southern Tier. Otherwise, conditions remain dry and oppressively humid, especially in areas near Lake Erie and the Finger Lakes. Highs are expected to reach the low 90s, pushing heat indices to uncomfortable levels through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Cities including Buffalo, Rochester, and Batavia will experience sticky air and limited overnight relief, with temps remaining in the 70s after dark. Travelers and outdoor workers are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity, and check on vulnerable individuals.

Relief is on the horizon as a cooler and less humid air mass moves into the region by Thursday. Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 70s and low 80s with much drier air through the weekend — a welcome break from the recent heat.

Humidity will gradually decline starting late Wednesday, with further updates expected as the new air mass settles in.
