Buffalo, N.Y. – Scattered thunderstorms could rattle parts of western and central New York through Friday evening as a cold front sweeps across the region, bringing brief downpours, gusty winds, and muggy conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop throughout the day with uneven rainfall coverage, especially between Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. Most areas will see highs in the low to mid-80s with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. Drier air is expected to move in overnight.

Winds will pick up slightly ahead of the front — 8 to 14 mph in western counties and 5 to 10 mph farther east. Motorists should be alert for sudden downpours reducing visibility during the afternoon commute, particularly along I-90 and the Lake Ontario shoreline. No severe storms are expected, but localized ponding on roads is possible.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and remain weather-aware, especially during early evening hours. Thunderstorm activity should taper off after sunset with improving conditions into the weekend.

Additional updates may be issued later today if storm intensity increases.
