Abilene, Texas – A stretch of summer heat will hold strong across West-Central Texas through the weekend, but a midweek cold front could finally bring relief with cooler air and rain chances. Highs in Abilene, San Angelo, and surrounding towns are expected to remain in the upper 90s through Sunday before dropping back into the 80s by Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, storm chances increase beginning late Monday and peak Tuesday into Wednesday, with a 40 to 50 percent likelihood of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region. Cities including Brownwood, Junction, and Sweetwater may also see beneficial rainfall after several dry days.

Travelers and residents should prepare for changing conditions. Outdoor plans this weekend should remain largely unaffected, but by Tuesday, storms could bring slick roads, brief downpours, and gusty winds. Emergency officials recommend avoiding flooded low-water crossings and securing outdoor items ahead of possible storms.

The cold front is expected to keep temperatures closer to seasonal norms through midweek, with highs near 85 by Wednesday in Abilene and San Angelo. More rain chances may linger into late week, keeping the pattern unsettled.
