Brown County, WI — Deaths and injuries on Brown County roads declined last year, according to the Brown County Traffic Safety Commission. While the drop is encouraging, officials are urging drivers not to let their guard down as they continue working toward zero roadway deaths in 2026.

According to county law enforcement data, Brown County recorded 11 traffic fatalities in 10 crashes in 2025, compared to 19 deaths in 16 crashes in 2024.

“It’s a relief knowing fewer families mourned the loss of a loved one last year,” said Captain John Rousseau of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. “Yet, our goal remains zero deaths. Whether it’s a teen or an elderly motorist, we want everyone to get home alive in 2026.”

The commission cited recurring factors in the most serious crashes:

  • Speeding: A factor in many of 2025’s most severe incidents.
  • Seat Belt Use: Several victims were not restrained.
  • Impaired Driving: Drug- and alcohol-related driving played a role in multiple fatalities.

Preliminary state data also shows Wisconsin roadway deaths dropped from 576 in 2024 to 536 in 2025.

Officials encourage area drivers to stay alert, buckle up, and drive sober throughout 2026.
