Green Bay, WI – Firefighters are battling a box-alarm structure fire on Green Bay’s west side Monday morning.

According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 7:45 a.m. to a fire alarm at 2200 Larsen Road. Engine 4, the first crew to arrive, reported seeing heavy black smoke while still en route to the scene.

Officials said Battalion 3 confirmed flames coming from the roof of one of the buildings upon arrival, prompting commanders to escalate the incident to a second-level Box Alarm to bring in additional resources.

The fire remained active Monday morning, generating a significant amount of smoke across nearby neighborhoods. Authorities advised people in the immediate area to shelter in place if possible, noting that soot is being blown through the vicinity due to strong winds and freezing conditions.

Officials also urged residents not to call 911 simply to report smoke in the area, explaining that crews are already aware of the incident and actively working the scene.

According to the department, multiple emergency crews from across Brown County responded to assist as firefighters work to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

Winter weather conditions have complicated the response, with high winds and freezing temperatures affecting operations while crews attempt to access and suppress the fire from the roof area.

The department also thanked the City of Green Bay Public Works Department, nearby villages, and private plow drivers for assisting crews in clearing access routes so emergency vehicles could reach the scene more effectively.

Smoke from the fire may be visible across portions of the west side, which could be noticeable to commuters and students traveling through the area Monday morning.

Officials said additional updates will be released as the situation develops.
