Brooksville, FL – Runners and walkers in Hernando County can kick off Thanksgiving morning with a cause this year as the annual Brooksville Turkey Trot returns Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, at Tom Varn Park.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the event features both a 5K and a 1-mile fun run, giving participants of all ages a chance to join in the holiday tradition while supporting the department’s Shop With a Cop program. The initiative provides Christmas gifts to local children and families in need.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., with races starting at 8 a.m. Participants will meet near the park’s splash pad at 301 Darby Lane in Brooksville.

Tickets are $25 per runner and include a free commemorative T-shirt for those who register by Monday, Nov. 3. Prices increase by $5 after that date.

Event proceeds directly benefit the Sheriff’s Office community outreach efforts, ensuring local children receive gifts and support during the holidays.

Online registration is open now. For more details, participants can contact event coordinator Broc Valdez at 352-457-0346.
