Broadview, IL – A section of Beach Street near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview will temporarily close to vehicle traffic Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, as officials expand a designated protest zone.

According to the temporary Unified Command, the expanded protest area will cover much of Beach Street south of Lexington Avenue down to local business access ways. Vehicle access to nearby businesses will be rerouted around the protest zone. Officials say the change is meant to let demonstrators exercise their First Amendment rights without blocking traffic and to reduce the risk of people being hit by vehicles or officers being injured during enforcement.

Protestors will continue to enter the designated area at Lexington Avenue and Beach Street. Lexington Avenue must remain open for regular traffic and emergency vehicles, Unified Command emphasized. Individuals are prohibited from entering the rerouted traffic zone south of the designated protest area and may be arrested if they do so, officials said.

The temporary Unified Command says it remains committed to supporting peaceful protest while enforcing the law. Over the past month and a half, more than 4,000 people have demonstrated outside the Broadview ICE facility, the vast majority peacefully, according to officials. The expanded protest zone will continue to include a designated media area.

Officials said they have coordinated with several faith groups and organizations to help them safely demonstrate. The Illinois Department of Human Services is facilitating on-site counseling services for protestors. A community liaison, Jason Hernandez, can be reached at Jason.hernandez@ccsheriff.org for questions or concerns related to the protests. Media inquiries should continue to go through Unified Command press liaisons.
