Bridgeport, WA – A woman accused of stabbing a store employee multiple times during a confrontation at a Bridgeport market has turned herself in, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident happened around 10:42 a.m. Saturday, November 15, at the San Marcos Market on Columbia Avenue. A woman allegedly attacked a female employee near the front counter, stabbing her several times in the face before fleeing the scene on foot.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim identified the suspect as Monica Marroquin Mercado, 23, of Bridgeport. Investigators determined the two women knew each other and had been involved in a prior verbal altercation. The victim was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Deputies searched the 1200 block of Fairview Avenue, where Mercado was believed to be hiding, but were unable to locate her. Due to the nature of the incident, East Cascade SWAT was called to assist, though the suspect was not found. Officials later confirmed there was no broader threat to public safety.

On November 18 at about 12:01 p.m., Mercado voluntarily surrendered at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Substation in Bridgeport. She was booked into the Chelan County Regional Jail on charges of Assault in the First Degree and Malicious Mischief in the Second Degree.
