MELBOURNE, Fla. – Heavy rain drenched parts of Brevard County late Friday morning, prompting a Flood Advisory through 2 p.m. as low-lying neighborhoods and poor drainage areas fill with standing water.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Doppler radar showed bands of thunderstorms producing between 1 and 3 inches of rain, with another 1 to 2 inches possible before conditions begin to ease. The advisory covers much of east central Florida, including Melbourne, Palm Bay, Cocoa, Merritt Island, and Satellite Beach.
Road flooding has already been reported in several coastal and inland communities, including Indialantic and West Melbourne. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded streets and turn around when encountering high water. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles, officials warn.
Localized flooding may continue through the afternoon as additional storms track across Brevard County. The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor updates and stay alert for potential extended advisories if rain persists.
Warnings remain in effect until 2 p.m. Friday.
