Titusville, FL – Thanksgiving week traffic on Interstate 95 in Brevard County took a dangerous turn Wednesday after deputies said a driver was caught traveling more than 110 mph during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Brad McLaughlin was conducting speed enforcement on I-95 when he allegedly observed a vehicle driven by a man identified as Yehya traveling at 94 mph before accelerating to 111 mph. Deputies said the driver was weaving through heavy traffic before eventually pulling onto the shoulder after emergency lights were activated.

Sheriff’s officials said the incident occurred amid peak holiday travel, a time when law enforcement routinely increases highway enforcement due to congestion and crash risks. Deputies reported that the driver, who is from New York, allegedly behaved as though the interstate were “an extension of the Daytona International Speedway.” Sheriff Wayne Ivey stated that such speeds pose extreme public danger during any time of year—especially during Thanksgiving week.

According to the sheriff’s office, Yehya was arrested and taken to the Brevard County Jail on charges related to dangerous and excessive speed. The sheriff noted that driving more than 30 mph over the posted limit in Florida can lead to criminal charges, not just citations.

Deputies added that no injuries were reported during the stop, and the vehicle was safely removed from the roadway.

With millions of drivers expected across Florida’s highways this week, officials are urging travelers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and stay alert as holiday road activity continues through Sunday.

Residents who frequently travel I-95 are encouraged to share whether they experienced delays or saw heavy enforcement Wednesday.
