Titusville, FL – A woman was arrested Monday evening after deputies found her allegedly passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle that was still in drive, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, multiple callers reported a vehicle being driven erratically in the Titusville area Monday night. Sgt. Lakeman responded and located the car, which had come to rest sideways off the roadway. Deputies said the driver, identified as Kimberly Wesley, appeared to be unconscious with the engine running and the transmission still engaged.
Deputy Fedro arrived to assist and helped remove Wesley from the vehicle. According to deputies, the woman allegedly struggled to follow commands, stared upward or away from officers, and appeared unsteady on her feet. Wesley then attempted standard Field Sobriety Exercises but allegedly performed poorly, authorities said.
Deputies transported Wesley to the county jail — informally known as “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge” — so she could be safely detained. The sheriff’s office said she was unable to successfully complete a breath test, allegedly due to repeatedly falling asleep or failing to follow instructions. She did agree to provide a urine sample, which has been sent to a lab for analysis.
Further investigation revealed that Wesley is currently on felony probation, according to the sheriff’s office. In addition to the DUI charge, she now faces an on-site violation of probation charge.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey thanked residents who called in the reckless-driving reports, noting that the quick tips helped deputies intervene before anyone was hurt.
