Brevard County, FL – A convicted felon is back behind bars after deputies say they found him with a rifle, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia during a patrol stop on a dirt trail in Brevard County.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Rowell was conducting proactive patrols near a construction site when he spotted a vehicle parked along a dirt trail. Upon approaching, he made contact with the driver, David Harvey, who was reportedly sitting in the passenger seat with a .22-caliber rifle.
Deputy Rowell asked why Harvey was on the property. Harvey told deputies he was hunting but had no other reason to be at the construction site. Deputies soon learned Harvey is a convicted felon, which prohibits him from owning or possessing a firearm.
Authorities said the encounter gave probable cause for a vehicle search, which allegedly uncovered approximately 13 grams of methamphetamine and several glass smoking pipes.
Harvey was charged with armed trespassing, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on no bond.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey praised Deputy Rowell’s work, saying the arrest reflects the agency’s ongoing commitment to proactive policing.
“If you break the law in Brevard County, we will find you and put you where you belong — right behind bars,” Sheriff Ivey said in a statement.
