Sioux Falls, SD – Residents in Sioux Falls and surrounding areas should prepare for an elevated fire danger starting Monday as warm, dry, and breezy conditions settle over the region. With temperatures climbing into the low 70s and strong southerly winds expected, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for elevated fire risks along Interstate 29 and adjacent areas. The agency urges residents to avoid outdoor burning and exercise caution with fire-related activities.
According to the NWS, Monday’s forecast includes a high near 72 degrees, with winds gusting between 15 to 20 mph. These conditions could facilitate the spread of any ignition sources, making the risk for wildfires significantly higher. Breezy weather and low humidity further heighten the fire risk, extending the warning until conditions ease later in the week.
Looking ahead, a shift in weather patterns will bring a chance of rain starting Tuesday night, with temperatures slightly cooling as the week progresses. Tuesday’s high will range from 60 to 83 degrees, and there is a 40% chance of thunderstorms by evening. By Wednesday, showers are expected to continue, bringing cooler weather with highs around 54 degrees and a 50% chance of rain.
The latter part of the week will see a return to drier conditions as temperatures drop. Thursday is forecasted to be clear with highs in the low 50s, while Friday will remain sunny, albeit cooler, with highs in the upper 50s.
