Brainerd, Minn. – Heavy rain has triggered a Flash Flood Warning across parts of central Minnesota Friday, placing Brainerd, Baxter, Garrison and surrounding communities at risk of dangerous road flooding through 2:30 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, more than 43,000 residents across Crow Wing County could be affected. Officials are urging drivers to avoid flooded roadways, warning that even shallow water can sweep away vehicles. The region includes 14 schools and three hospitals, adding to concern over accessibility if water levels continue to rise.
Water is pooling quickly along low-lying areas near Highway 169 and rural routes connecting Brainerd to Garrison, making travel hazardous. Emergency crews are prepared for high water rescues, and residents in flood-prone zones are advised to move to higher ground immediately.
Travelers should avoid unnecessary trips, especially in rural areas where standing water may cover unlit roads. Authorities stress the message: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 2:30 p.m. Friday, but additional advisories could follow if rain persists into the evening.
