Duluth, MN – The National Weather Service is warning of near-critical fire weather conditions across portions of central and northern Minnesota this afternoon, particularly from the Brainerd Lakes to the Leech Lake region.
According to the US National Weather Service Duluth office, relative humidity may drop to around 25%, with southeast wind gusts reaching 25 to 30 mph. These dry and breezy conditions will make it easier for fires to spread quickly if they start. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and to secure loose items that could blow away.
Forecasters say dry, sunny weather will continue through today, but rain showers are expected Sunday morning, becoming more widespread Sunday night as a cold front moves in. South winds will strengthen late Saturday into Sunday, with gusts up to 30 mph before shifting to the northwest as cooler, drier air arrives Monday.
Temperatures will drop early next week, with highs in the 40s and 50s expected Monday and Tuesday. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay updated on local fire danger levels and upcoming rainfall forecasts as conditions shift.
