Braidwood, IL – Starting Monday, the Braidwood Nuclear Generating Station will begin its scheduled refueling outage, involving hundreds of workers. This essential maintenance process will continue until Oct. 23, bringing about 1,200 additional workers and contractors to Braidwood daily.

Braidwood police will manage traffic around the Rt. 53 entrance to the plant during shift changes, aiming to reduce congestion. Commuters should expect delays and plan for potential traffic adjustments in the area.

According to local authorities, the refueling process involves thorough inspections and upgrades to ensure safe and reliable plant operations. Workers will operate around the clock to complete the refuel, which is part of regular nuclear plant maintenance.

The public is advised to remain cautious near Rt. 53 and the plant’s entrance, as increased traffic is anticipated. Braidwood officials recommend alternate routes if possible to ease the traffic burden. This annual refueling keeps the plant running safely, sustaining local energy needs.
