Braidwood, IL – Residents along portions of Main Street and English Street are under a precautionary boil order today after a water main rupture prompted emergency repairs earlier in the day.

According to the City of Braidwood Water Department, the boil order was issued Tuesday afternoon after crews shut down a water main to repair a rupture affecting homes at 812 to 890 W. Main St. and 112 to 195 N. English St. Repairs were completed around noon, and water service has since been restored.

City officials emphasized that the boil order is limited only to homes along the listed addresses and is being issued as a precaution due to the temporary loss of water pressure during the repair process. Such pressure disruptions can potentially allow bacteria to enter the water system.

Affected residents are advised to boil tap water for at least five minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. The order will remain in effect until water sample testing confirms the system is safe.

Water samples will be collected from a select number of affected homes and other impacted sources. Once satisfactory test results are received, the city will officially lift the boil order and notify residents.

The City of Braidwood typically distributes boil order notices directly to affected properties using door hangers. Orange notices indicate an active boil order, while green notices are used once an order has been lifted. Notices are placed on front-facing doors when possible, or side doors if no front entrance is accessible.

Updates are also shared through the City of Braidwood, Braidwood E.S.D.A., and Braidwood Police Department Facebook pages.

Residents outside the listed addresses are not affected and do not need to boil their water at this time.
