Louisville, Ky. – Dangerous heat will blanket Kentucky through early next week, with temperatures in the 90s and heat index values climbing above 100 degrees. Residents across Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green and surrounding areas could feel readings between 102 and 107 at times, raising the risk of heat exhaustion.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, mostly sunny skies Saturday will push highs into the mid-90s with heat index values topping 105 in some locations. Sunday brings a 20 to 30 percent chance of scattered showers and storms, which could briefly lower temperatures but also add to humidity. By Monday, sunshine returns and highs again surge into the mid to upper 90s.
The extended stretch of oppressive heat could affect outdoor events, road crews and anyone without reliable air conditioning. Officials recommend limiting outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, drinking plenty of water and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
Heat advisories could expand if temperatures and humidity remain elevated into early next week. Conditions are expected to ease slightly after Tuesday as highs dip back into the upper 80s by midweek.
