Bourbonnais, IL – Liberty Intermediate School in Bourbonnais has been named one of Illinois’ 2025 Governor’s Blue Ribbon Schools, joining a select group of 28 public and private schools recognized statewide for exceptional academic achievement.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), Governor JB Pritzker celebrated the honorees this week at Glen Oaks Elementary in Hickory Hills, where he launched the new Illinois Governor’s Blue Ribbon Schools program. The initiative replaces the long-running national Blue Ribbon program, which the U.S. Department of Education ended earlier this year.

Liberty Intermediate School, part of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53, was commended for its strong academic performance and commitment to excellence. “Being designated a Governor’s Blue Ribbon School is an incredible distinction, and these schools deserve to be celebrated,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Tony Sanders.

The new state-led program ensures Illinois schools continue to be honored for outstanding student outcomes and innovative teaching. Liberty Intermediate joins 15 public and 13 private schools statewide in receiving this year’s distinction.

Honorees will be invited to a recognition event at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield later this spring to celebrate their achievements.
