Bourbonnais, IL – Olivet Nazarene University has appointed Ryan Green as its new University Chaplain, bringing with him nearly two decades of pastoral leadership, a background in military service and a strong commitment to spiritual formation.
According to Olivet officials, Green most recently served as Lead Pastor of City First Church in Eugene, Oregon, where he spent the last eight years guiding the congregation through multicultural worship, innovative discipleship programs and community-wide faith initiatives. University leaders said his experience and vision align with Olivet’s mission to provide Christ-centered education.
Green, a U.S. Navy veteran who served six years before entering ministry, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Ministry from Nazarene Bible College and a Master of Divinity from Portland Seminary. He has spent 17 years in pastoral ministry, where he was known for developing leadership intensives, creating discipleship systems and launching initiatives that sought to make faith visible in daily life.
In his new role, Green will oversee chapel programming, spiritual development and campus-wide initiatives aimed at helping students grow in faith. He said he is committed to fostering what he describes as “risky faith, bold courage and contagious joy” among young adults.
“I am honored to join the Olivet community and contribute to the spiritual formation of these incredible young adults,” Green said in a university release. “My prayer is that together we will create an environment where students can deeply encounter Jesus, be transformed by His presence and discover how to make a meaningful difference in this world.”
Green and his wife, Kylie, an ordained Elder, will relocate to the Bourbonnais area with their three children later this semester when he begins his duties.
