BOURBONNAIS, IL – Olivet Nazarene University officials confirmed that a late-night fire broke out in McClain Hall, a campus residence hall, Saturday, November 1.
According to the university, all students are safe, though the building sustained water damage from sprinklers that activated to extinguish the flames. Some students are being temporarily relocated as a safety precaution and to address the water cleanup.
Early findings point to a toaster as the cause of the fire.
In a statement, Olivet said, “Thank you for your prayers for our students and campus.” The university expressed gratitude for the quick response from emergency personnel and emphasized that student safety remains the top priority.
Village officials are expected to release additional details in a press release later this evening.
