Boston, MA – A sharp change in weather is arriving across eastern Massachusetts and southern New England as rain exits this evening, followed by strong winds and a rapid drop in temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, rain will end later this evening, possibly mixing with or briefly changing to a few wet snowflakes in spots before skies begin to clear. Behind the departing system, much colder air and gusty west winds will move in overnight.

Forecasters say wind gusts between 35 and 50 mph are possible tonight, helping drive temperatures down into the low to mid-20s by daybreak Saturday. The combination of wind and falling temperatures may create hazardous conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles and anyone outdoors late tonight.

Saturday will be dry but noticeably colder, with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs ranging from 33 to 41 degrees. Winds will remain breezy, making it feel colder than the thermometer suggests.

Conditions improve slightly on Sunday, which is expected to be the milder day of the weekend. Skies will be partly sunny, with highs climbing into the upper 30s to mid-40s, though breezy conditions will persist.

Despite the cold, meteorologists note that no additional precipitation is expected this weekend, offering favorable conditions for travel and outdoor plans, aside from the chilly temperatures.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, dress in layers, and use caution during the windy overnight period. Travelers should remain alert for slick spots, especially where temperatures drop quickly after rain ends.
