Boston, MA – Early morning commuters across parts of Massachusetts are being urged to take it slow Wednesday morning as lingering snow and rain/snow showers move east, leaving behind potentially slick roads, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston/Norton.

Forecasters issued an update at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, noting that precipitation will diminish by 7 to 8 a.m., but untreated roads—especially in the interior and higher elevation areas—may remain slippery for several hours. The NWS cautioned that even light snowfall can create hazardous travel conditions early in the day.

Once the morning snow exits, dry and seasonably cold weather will dominate through the afternoon. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 30s to lower 40s statewide, with readings around 41°F in Boston, 38°F in Worcester, and 36°F across portions of the Berkshires. Winds will remain light, but temperatures will feel slightly below normal for early December.

The NWS advises drivers in central and western Massachusetts—including communities near Worcester, Springfield, and Pittsfield—to allow extra time for the morning commute and remain alert for black ice on bridges and secondary roads.

Skies should clear later in the day, setting the stage for a dry stretch through Thursday before another weather system approaches by the weekend.
