Boston, Massachusetts – Umbrellas and jackets will be essential across Massachusetts midweek as unseasonably cool, wet weather moves in starting Wednesday night and lasts through Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a broad system will push widespread rain and gusty winds into the region late Wednesday, with rain chances climbing to 85% by Thursday morning. Daytime highs will struggle to break the low 50s, running 10 to 20 degrees cooler than average for late May.
Boston, Worcester, and Springfield will see highs near 50°F with lows dipping into the mid-40s through Friday. On the Cape and Islands, temperatures will hover slightly higher, but persistent showers and wind gusts may still cause delays for ferries and coastal travel. In Hartford and Providence, wind-driven rain could affect the Thursday morning and evening commutes.
Drivers should expect slick roads, especially on Route 2, I-90, and I-95 corridors. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, check drainage around homes, and wear layered clothing to stay warm and dry.
Conditions may begin improving late Friday, but scattered showers and cool air could linger into the weekend. Additional advisories may be issued as the system develops.
